An Israeli air strike on Sunday reportedly killed two Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon, as confirmed by the group. Hezbollah, which has been engaging in near-daily exchanges of fire with Israel in solidarity with Hamas since the onset of the conflict in Gaza on October 7, lost these members in the village of Taybeh near the Israeli border. The Lebanese health ministry also reported another casualty, a Lebanese civilian who died from injuries sustained in an earlier Israeli strike on the southern village of Beit Lif.
The ongoing conflict has led to increasing tensions, particularly following a recent strike in Beirut’s southern suburbs that killed Hezbollah’s top military commander, Fuad Shukr, and the assassination of Hamas’s political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, both of which were attributed to Israel.
The Israeli military has acknowledged targeting several Hezbollah military structures, including one in Derdghaiya, where secondary explosions suggested the presence of weapons. Additional attacks on Hezbollah positions in northern Israel, including drone strikes, have also been reported.
The cross-border violence has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with at least 565 deaths in Lebanon, including fighters and civilians, and 48 fatalities on the Israeli side, among them soldiers and civilians. The ongoing conflict has displaced thousands from both sides of the border.
