Victor Boniface continued his impressive goalscoring form for Bayer Leverkusen, finding the net in a second consecutive match as the Bundesliga champions drew 2-2 against Holstein Kiel in a thrilling Game Week 6 encounter at BayArena on Saturday.

The Nigeria international opened the scoring for his team just four minutes into the game, marking his second goal in as many matches following his decisive strike in their UEFA Champions League victory against AC Milan earlier in the week.

Jonas Hofmann also found the net in the eighth minute as Xabi Alonso’s men raced to a 2-0 lead early on. However, the newly promoted Holstein Kiel mounted a remarkable comeback to earn a valuable point on the road.

The draw sees Leverkusen slip to fifth in the Bundesliga table, now two points behind leaders Bayern Munich. It also marks the second time this season that Alonso’s side has surrendered a two-goal lead, having previously lost 3-2 to RB Leipzig.

Boniface has been in scintillating form this season, already notching seven goals and providing five assists in just eight Bundesliga appearances. His recent performances, including his maiden Champions League goal against Milan, have made him a favourite among the Leverkusen faithful.

After his Champions League heroics, Boniface expressed his excitement: “As a striker, it’s important to score in every game, not just in the Champions League but every game. I’m happy I got the first goal in the Champions League, so I feel really proud of myself.” His form will be crucial to Leverkusen’s Bundesliga and Champions League aspirations.
