Victor Osimhen has won his first Turkish Super Lig award shortly after joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli.
The Nigerian international’s stunning goal against Kasımpaşa was voted Goal of the Week by beIN SPORTS, securing an overwhelming 77.96% of the votes.
Despite scoring twice in the match, Osimhen’s efforts weren’t enough to secure victory for Galatasaray, as they surrendered a three-goal lead to settle for a draw.
The 25-year-old showcased his brilliance by volleying home a pass from former Napoli teammate Dries Mertens, giving his team a 2-0 lead. Although Osimhen missed pre-season due to transfer complications, he has quickly become a crucial player for the Turkish champions, contributing either a goal or assist in all four of his appearances.
Osimhen’s current stats with Galatasaray stand at two goals and four assists in just four games. However, he is currently sidelined with an injury sustained during a league match. He missed the Europa League fixture against RFS in Latvia, but the injury is not serious, and he is expected to return soon.
He could make his comeback when Galatasaray faces Alanyaspor in their next Super Lig fixture.
In an interview, Osimhen credited Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk for playing a key role in his decision to join the club, saying, “Okan Buruk is the key to my transfer. I was incredibly impressed when I spoke to him.”
Although Osimhen’s loan is initially set for four months, his strong performances have sparked speculation of an extension. Meanwhile, reports suggest Chelsea remains interested, with the club allegedly preparing a €90 million bid for the striker in the January transfer window.
