British supermodel Naomi Campbell has been banned from serving as a charity trustee in the United Kingdom.
The ban, which lasts five years, came after a UK watchdog discovered that charity funds were used on luxury spa treatments and hotels.
Following a three-year investigation, the UK Charity Commission, which oversees charities in England and Wales, found that from 2016, only 8.5% of the charity’s total expenditure went towards charitable grants over a six-year period. The commission reported that part of the funds covered Campbell’s stays at luxury hotels, spa treatments, and even cigarettes.
In response to the inquiry during an interview with AP, Campbell expressed concern, saying, “I have just found out about the findings today, and I am extremely concerned. I wasn’t in control of my charity; I put the control in the hands of a legal employer.”
