Bundesliga: Harry Kane scores again as Bayern beat Dortmund 2-1

by Admin

Harry Kane continued his prolific form on Saturday, scoring for the seventh consecutive game as Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at the Allianz Arena. The result marked Bayern’s 11th win from 11 matches in all competitions this season and kept them five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table, with a perfect record of 21 points from seven matches.

Dortmund remain in fourth place, seven points behind their long-time rivals.

Kane’s goal — his 104th for Bayern — was also the 400th club goal of his career. The England captain has now scored 19 times in 11 appearances this season, including 12 in the league.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany deployed Kane in the number 10 role, behind Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson, who made his third start for the club. Kane impressed early on, creating opportunities for wingers Luis Diaz and Michael Olise before heading in from a corner in the 21st minute to give Bayern the lead.

Dortmund grew into the game after the break and came close to equalising when Serhou Guirassy capitalised on a defensive mistake and set up Karim Adeyemi, who lost his footing before shooting. Substitute Jobe Bellingham also missed a chance to level late in the game, hesitating inside the box and allowing Olise to intercept and score Bayern’s second with 11 minutes remaining.

Julian Brandt pulled one back for Dortmund in the 84th minute, steering home Julian Ryerson’s cross, but the visitors were unable to turn their late pressure into an equaliser.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Alex Grimaldo scored twice as Bayer Leverkusen edged Mainz 4-3 to extend their unbeaten run to eight games. The victory lifted Leverkusen to fifth place, level on points with Dortmund, as they prepare to face Paris Saint-Germain in Europe.

Grimaldo opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 11th minute before Christian Kofane made it 2-0 midway through the first half. Mainz pulled one back after a defensive error allowed Lee Jae-sung to score, but Jonas Hofmann set up Grimaldo for his second goal just before half-time. Despite conceding again late to Armindo Sieb, Leverkusen held on to secure the win.

Leverkusen midfielder Hofmann said after the match that the team was beginning to “find its rhythm” under new coach Kasper Hjulmand, who replaced Erik ten Hag in September.

In other results, RB Leipzig beat Hamburg 2-1 thanks to a double from Christoph Baumgartner, Stuttgart defeated Wolfsburg 3-0, Cologne drew 1-1 with Augsburg, and Werder Bremen shared a 2-2 draw with Heidenheim after twice surrendering the lead.
