Nigerian shot putter Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has made history by becoming the first African to throw over 22 meters in the men’s shot put.
Competing at the Eugene Diamond League in the United States last weekend, Enekwechi secured third place with a remarkable throw of 22.10 meters—breaking his previous personal best of 21.91m, which he set at the same event last year.
The competition was fierce, with Joe Kovacs winning the event with a world-leading throw of 22.48m. Roger Steen narrowly edged out Enekwechi for second place with a 22.11m throw on his fifth attempt.
Enekwechi pushed hard on his final throw in hopes of reclaiming second but closed with 21.68m.
Despite that, his powerful performance earned him a spot on the podium and etched his name in the record books as the first African to break the 22m barrier in shot put.
