Rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs received a standing ovation from fellow inmates upon returning to prison after a jury acquitted him of three out of five federal charges.
On Wednesday, July 2, the 55-year-old was officially cleared of s£x trafficking and racketeering charges — allegations that could have resulted in a life sentence if convicted.
Speaking to the Associated Press over the weekend, Diddy’s lead attorney, Marc Agnifilo, said the hip-hop icon was welcomed back like a hero by inmates who saw his acquittal as a rare sign of hope.
According to Agnifilo, inmates told Diddy, “We never get to see anyone beat the government” — but he did, and they celebrated the moment with him.
Despite the partial acquittal, Combs remains behind bars at a federal facility in Brooklyn following his conviction on prostitution-related charges, which could still see him spend several more years in prison. His sentence will take into account the roughly 10 months he has already served since his September 2024 arrest.
Diddy requested bail after the verdict while awaiting sentencing, but Judge Arun Subramanian denied it, stating that his legal team failed to prove he does not pose a danger to the community.
