The foremost beauty pageant for people of African descent, The Face of African Queen Finland have renamed the pageant to Miss Afro Diaspora Finland as part of its rebranding measures to enable participation of black ladies and people of colour living in Finland who are from different parts of the world.
It means, young ladies from Africa, Afro-European, African-American, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Asian etc, can now participate.
According to the management, the name change comes on the heels of several appeals from those who are not from Africa, who wanted us to create something for them. Instead of running a parallel pageant we decided to open the doors by renaming the pageant.

The official statement from the management indicates that the pageant will not hold this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Next pageant comes up in 2022 and applications will be opened during the spring.

Last week, we informed the general public that the winner of our beauty pageant for 2020 is on her way to Malta for a one week all expense paid trip as part of the star prize for winning the competition. We also informed our amazing fans and followers that we have rebranded the beauty pageant which made us to change the name from the Face of African Queen Finland to Miss Afro Diaspora Finland to enable participation of blacks and people of colour from all over the world.
We are doing a lot behind the scene to restructure and reposition the beauty pageant.
Last year, on 21.11. 2020 history was made in Finland when the first grand finale was held and we had more than 250 guests. Aside making headlines in the Finnish media, friends and families were re-united at the event and some of the cultures of African countries were on high display. The event witnessed the crème de la crème of the African community and members of the African Diplomatic Corps.
Our goal is to consolidate on the achievements that we have made so far by continuing changing the narratives that has beclouded the minority Afro community in Finland.
Furthermore, this is to inform the general public that this year’s beauty pageant has been postponed to 2022 due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The restrictions on public gathering has been lifted on October 1, 2021, but the time is too short for us to organize the beauty pageant.
Previously, we promised a boat cruise from Helsinki to Tallinn and a whole lot of attractions and visits by the participants and the team but we can’t achieve this within the space of one month hence the need for postponement.
