Fenerbahce readies €42m bid for Lookman

by Admin

Fenerbahce are intensifying their pursuit of Ademola Lookman and are preparing an opening bid for the Atalanta forward as the Turkish club aims for another high-profile signing in the January transfer window.

According to Sport Mediaset journalist Orazio Accomando, the Istanbul-based side are ready to submit a proposal structured as a paid loan worth €5m, with a right or potential obligation to buy set at €37m, bringing the total package to €42m.

“Fenerbahce continue to monitor the situation of Ademola Lookman. The Turkish club are preparing an offer for a paid loan worth €5m, with a purchase option or obligation set at €37m,” the report said.

Discussions are understood to be at an early stage, but Fenerbahce have identified the Nigeria international as a priority target as they look to strengthen their attacking options.

Atalanta, however, are believed to prefer a permanent transfer rather than a temporary arrangement.

“Atalanta would prefer a permanent transfer, but developments remain possible,” Sport Mediaset added.

The Bergamo-based club value Lookman highly following his strong performances in Serie A and in Europe, and are reluctant to approve any deal that delays a full sale unless the terms are particularly favourable.

Despite being a key figure for Atalanta, interest in the forward has continued to grow, with Fenerbahce now prepared to test the Italian side’s resolve.

Lookman is currently on international duty at the African Cup of Nations, where he has been one of Nigeria’s standout performers, recording three goals and four assists as the Super Eagles push for a fourth continental title.

His form has placed him among the leading contenders for the tournament’s most valuable player award.

The latest interest follows a summer in which the former African Footballer of the Year was heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan. Reports suggested he was keen to leave Atalanta, but Inter failed to meet the club’s valuation, and the player remained in Bergamo.

Any breakthrough in negotiations is likely to hinge on whether Fenerbahce are willing to convert their proposal into a straight transfer or include an obligation to buy under conditions acceptable to Atalanta.
