Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 35-year-old woman, Modupeola Bamisade, for allegedly defrauding more than 100 unsuspecting victims of over N500m through an online gadget scam.
According to police sources, the suspect specialised in the sale of iPhones, iPads, and other Apple products, which she advertised online at discounts of up to 50 per cent to attract customers.
A police source disclosed on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, that Bamisade leveraged social media influencers to promote her supposed sales. Victims reportedly made payments for the gadgets but never received them, after which the suspect allegedly offered repeated excuses to delay or completely evade delivery.
“We have a 35-year-old female suspect who claims to be an online vendor of iPhones, iPads, and other Apple products. She used influencers to advertise massive sales with about a 50 per cent discount,” the source said.
“She has been operating this way for some time and allegedly duped over 100 individuals of more than N500m. During interrogation, she admitted to using influencers to reach her victims and attract customers online.”
Another police source revealed that her arrest followed a report from one of the influencers who became suspicious after receiving multiple complaints from customers.
“One of the influencers reported her to the police, which led to her arrest,” the source stated.
The police also confirmed that several victims have since visited the command to identify the suspect following her arrest.
“One victim said she paid N1m for a phone. After payment, the suspect claimed the phone had arrived and would be delivered soon, but kept giving different excuses. At some point, someone even called her pretending to be a delivery rider, yet no one ever showed up,” the source added.
