Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek has confirmed that Victor Osimhen will undergo a two-week recovery programme, with the club aiming to have him fit for the derby against Fenerbahçe on December 1.
The 26-year-old was substituted in the first half of Nigeria’s tense 2026 World Cup play-off against DR Congo, prompting concerns for both his club and country.
Speaking to HT Spor, Özbek provided an update and reassured supporters about the striker’s progress.
“Osimhen will undergo a recovery period of about two weeks,” Özbek said, via Habersarikirmizi. “Our priority is to have him ready for the Fenerbahçe match, and our medical team is working intensely toward that goal.”
Galatasaray also confirmed that the striker is receiving treatment for muscular strain and bleeding after undergoing an MRI scan at the Acıbadem International Hospital in Istanbul.
Osimhen’s early exit was felt immediately, with the Super Eagles struggling to maintain their attacking threat for the rest of the match.
Meanwhile, George Gardi, the agent who facilitated Osimhen’s move from Napoli to Galatasaray, insists the Nigerian forward is happy at the club despite rising interest from top European teams.
Osimhen spent the 2024/25 season on loan with Galatasaray before making a permanent switch in the summer. He has recently been linked with clubs such as Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Nigerian striker played a key role in helping Galatasaray secure a domestic double last season. So far this campaign, he has scored nine goals in 12 appearances across all competitions, including six goals in just three Champions League matches.
