Nigerian singer Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, has shared his experiences of financial struggles before achieving stardom.
The ‘Elon Musk Boys’ hitmaker revealed that he took on various odd jobs to support himself and his family.
He recalled performing at clubs in Benin for just N5,000 to help his mother pay bills.
Shallipopi shared these details on his X handle on Saturday, following criticism for his statement about the importance of money for manhood.
He wrote, “I have travelled to all 36 states of Nigeria, touring towns just to survive. I don’t know where you’re from, but you shouldn’t talk to me about shame. Buckle up—this country isn’t laughing with anybody! Period!!!
“I’ve worked as a bricklayer, painter, and in workshops. I’ve done POP and plastering work. I used to sneak out at night to perform freestyle at Club Jokers in Benin, just to earn 5k and bring it home to my mum.”
