Liverpool FC have confirmed the signing of Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.
The 24-year-old right wing-back finalised his transfer on Friday after completing a medical and signing a long-term deal at the AXA Training Centre.
Speaking to the club’s media team, Frimpong expressed his excitement about joining the Reds.
“It was an easy decision,” he said. “When Liverpool showed interest, it was a no-brainer. I told my agents, ‘Just get this done.’”
“To the fans, I promise to give my all—my energy, my work-rate. I’m here to win, to celebrate with you, and to give you everything I’ve got,” he added.
Frimpong joins after an impressive four-and-a-half-year spell with Leverkusen, where he played 190 games, scored 30 goals, and provided 44 assists. He played a key role in the club’s historic 2023–24 season, helping them go unbeaten in domestic competitions and lift both the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal. He was also named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for the past two campaigns.
Born in Amsterdam, Frimpong developed at Manchester City’s academy before moving to Celtic in 2019, where he won three trophies. He joined Leverkusen in January 2021. Internationally, he made his Netherlands debut in October 2023 and has earned 12 caps, scoring once.
The defender also expressed his eagerness to work under Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot.
“I’ve spoken with him a few times. He was very positive and said I can bring energy, speed, and quality. Hearing that gives me confidence,” Frimpong said.
“Even at the national team, the Feyenoord boys told me he’s one of the best coaches they’ve had. Now I get to work with him—I’m really excited.”
Frimpong’s squad number will be announced later this summer.
