The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has issued updated guidelines for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination registration, along with a list of common challenges candidates may face.
The information, released via JAMB’s official X handle on Sunday, is intended to help prospective applicants prepare ahead of the registration exercise.
Registration Procedure
JAMB advised candidates to ensure that all personal details—such as National Identification Number (NIN), email, and A-Level results—are correct before generating a profile code.
To create the profile code, candidates must send their 11-digit NIN to either 55019 or 66019 (e.g., NIN 00000011111 to 55019/66019).
Once generated, the profile code cannot be changed, and biodata will be automatically pulled from NIMC. Candidates should then visit the nearest JAMB office or an approved CBT centre to complete registration.
E-PINs must be purchased only through authorised outlets including banks, approved online platforms, and accredited vendors at registration centres.
Candidates must also ensure they receive the correct registration template and verify every detail before final submission.
JAMB stressed that inaccurate or inconsistent information may result in delays or complications.
Important Tips
– Candidates should make all necessary corrections with NIMC early and confirm updates on their portal before registration (e.g., name, date of birth, gender, state of origin).
– GSM numbers and email addresses serve as unique identifiers and cannot be shared or altered.
– Candidates with biometric challenges must report to the nearest JAMB office; CBT centres are not allowed to force biometric capture.
– A dual screen must be used during registration, and candidates should ensure their passport photo and biometrics are correctly captured.
Common Challenges
JAMB also highlighted frequent issues with profile code generation:
– Error 550/66019: Occurs due to incorrect formatting; candidates should use the correct command.
– Number Already Registered: Indicates the phone number is tied to an existing profile; candidates may retrieve the SIM or use another number.
– Unable to Verify NIN: Candidates should wait and try again later.
The JAMB 2026 UTME form will be available for sale from Friday, 31 January 2026, to Saturday, 8 March 2026.
