Victor Osimhen has finally responded to the viral online campaign launched by Galatasaray fans urging him to extend his stay at the club following his record-setting run in Turkey.
The Nigerian forward, who recently scored twice in a 3-0 Turkish Cup final win over Trabzonspor—helping Galatasaray clinch a record 19th title—has sparked widespread speculation about his future.
His name trended online after fans initiated the #StayWithUsOsimhen movement on X (formerly Twitter), calling on the Napoli loanee to remain in Istanbul beyond this season.
With 35 goals to his name and a new club record as the highest-scoring foreign player, Osimhen has become a fan favourite. His relentless work ethic, contributions, and impact have fuelled passionate pleas for him to stay.
Speaking for the first time after the cup final, Osimhen thanked supporters for their love but stopped short of confirming his future.
“I really can’t stand the fans. I have to make a big decision at the end of the season. I want to thank everyone for what I’ve experienced during this process. I’ll make my decision at the end of the season,” he said.
“I try to help with my goals, my assists, by doing everything I can on the field. And when I help the team, it makes me very happy. We can say that we have done 99% of the job. Let’s see, in our last match, we want to fight and complete it as well.”
He praised Galatasaray’s ambition and the unified team spirit that welcomed him.
“Big congratulations to the team. When I came, what they made me feel directly was that our goals were clear,” he noted. “Galatasaray is a team that has a lot of cups, and at the same time, a team that wants even more.”
Reflecting on the cup triumph, Osimhen credited the success to collective effort, not individual stardom.
“I don’t think that I win the matches myself, that I bring the victories. We achieve this as a team with my teammates,” he said.
Looking ahead to the final league match against Kayserispor, Osimhen emphasised its importance as Galatasaray eyes a domestic double for the first time since 1998/99.
“On Sunday, we will fight for every ball, we will put up an incredible fight,” he declared.
