Victor Osimhen propelled Galatasaray into the Turkish Cup final with his 30th goal of the season as the Istanbul giants thrashed Konyaspor 5-1 in their semi-final clash on Tuesday.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring in the 26th minute, rising to meet a pinpoint cross from former Napoli teammate Dries Mertens and powering a header past the goalkeeper to put Galatasaray ahead.
Osimhen’s latest goal adds to an already stellar campaign, with 30 goals and six assists across all competitions for the Turkish side.
Lucas Torreira doubled the lead before half-time, setting the tone for a dominant performance. In the second half, Robert Sallai netted twice, while Pedrinho grabbed a consolation for Konyaspor. Yusuf Demir, who replaced Osimhen in the 73rd minute, added a fifth in stoppage time.
Earlier in the competition, Osimhen had played a decisive role in eliminating Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in the quarter-finals, scoring both goals in a tight 2-1 win.
Despite finishing second to Konyaspor in Group C of the cup’s group stage, Galatasaray rose to the occasion when it mattered most. Now, with a five-point lead in the Super Lig and six matches left, they’re firmly in the hunt for a domestic double.
Osimhen, on loan from Napoli, has scored 21 times in the league, six in the Europa League, and three in the Turkish Cup. While expected to leave this summer, he remains determined to help Galatasaray lift both trophies before his departure.
