Spanish football club Real Madrid reportedly regret signing Kylian Mbappé from Paris Saint-Germain.
The French forward, who joined the club on a free transfer this summer, has become the centre of controversy following allegations of rape in Sweden. According to reports from Swedish media, the incident allegedly occurred at a hotel in Stockholm on October 10th. Mbappé has since denied the accusation.
These allegations come just months after his much-anticipated move to Real Madrid.
Despite a promising start at the Bernabeu, where Mbappé scored seven goals in 11 games, the club is reportedly dissatisfied with his overall impact, both on and off the pitch.
French football journalist Romain Molina has suggested that Real Madrid may have made a misstep in signing Mbappé.
“They regret bringing him in; I can guarantee that,” Molina said during an interview. “It hasn’t been what they expected. It was more of [Florentino] Perez’s whim. He was the one who wanted him.”
“The club is disappointed, especially with his performance levels, which haven’t met expectations. The dressing room situation isn’t ideal either, though that may not be entirely Mbappé’s fault.”
“I believe Real Madrid have made a major mistake. He didn’t have a proper preseason and was thrown in right away, unlike [Jude] Bellingham. At 25, the physical drop-off he’s showing is hard to explain. I’ve never seen something like this,” Molina added.
The allegations could have serious implications for both Mbappé and Real Madrid.
