Salah crowned Premier League Player of the Season

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah has been named Premier League Player of the Season, marking the second time the 32-year-old Egyptian has won the honour—the first being in the 2017-18 campaign. The award is determined by a combination of public votes and a panel of football experts.

Salah, who played a key role in guiding Liverpool to the Premier League title this season, beat out strong competition from teammates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch. Gravenberch, 23, was awarded Young Player of the Season, leading all Premier League midfielders in interceptions (59) and topping Liverpool’s possession recovery stats.

Other nominees for the main award included Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and Nottingham Forest duo Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood. Notably, this is the first time since the 2018-19 season that a Manchester City player has not won the award.

The shortlist for the young player award also featured Liam Delap (Ipswich), Anthony Elanga (Nottingham Forest), Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Joao Pedro (Brighton), Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa), and William Saliba (Arsenal).

Heading into the final game of the season against Crystal Palace, Salah has scored 28 league goals—five more than any other player—and provided 18 assists, just two shy of the Premier League record. He also became the league’s highest-scoring overseas player this season, surpassing Sergio Aguero’s 184 goals.

Earlier this month, Salah was also voted Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year for the third time, earning over 90% of the vote. He recently signed a new contract that keeps him at Anfield until 2027.
