Frustrated Osimhen reportedly in talks with Al-Hilal

by Admin

Victor Osimhen has started discussions with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal after becoming frustrated with Manchester United’s lack of serious interest in securing him from Napoli this summer, according to Foot Mercato.

The Nigerian forward has reportedly opened talks with the Saudi Pro League champions after what sources describe as a lackluster pursuit from United, who have seemingly shifted their attention to other attacking targets.

This development is a blow to United’s transfer strategy, especially after their disappointing season ended with a defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final, which increased the need to strengthen their forward line.

Sources suggest that the 26-year-old striker feels undervalued by United’s hesitation to make a decisive move, despite months of speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford. United’s pursuit of Osimhen has been complicated by their focus on other attackers, including Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, who have emerged as priority targets for manager Ruben Amorim.

United’s current striking options have faced scrutiny this season, with both Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to consistently perform. The club is reportedly open to offers for both players ahead of the summer window, with Corriere dello Sport suggesting they would entertain offers around £46m for Højlund.

Osimhen’s frustration comes despite his stellar form during his loan spell at Galatasaray, where he has been key to their success this season. The Nigerian international has scored 25 goals in the Turkish Süper Lig, sitting three goals clear at the top of the scoring charts with two matches remaining, and played a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s domestic double triumph.

The situation has been further complicated by Osimhen’s rejection of Juventus, which initially appeared to benefit United and Arsenal in the race for his signature. However, United’s lack of urgency has opened the door for Saudi Arabian clubs to make their move.

Al-Hilal’s interest presents a lucrative alternative for Osimhen, who has a €75m release clause in his Napoli contract that is not applicable to Serie A clubs.

The timing of Al-Hilal’s approach could be crucial, especially as Osimhen looks to resolve his future quickly after missing out on a permanent move last summer.

While Osimhen would reportedly prefer to stay in European football, United’s lack of decisive action has forced him to consider alternatives.

For United, missing out on Osimhen could be costly, especially given the limited availability of proven goalscorers in the current market. The Nigerian’s goal tally of 36 across all competitions this season highlights his quality, and at 26, he offers both experience and long-term potential.

Osimhen is contracted to Napoli until 2026, with the club holding an option to extend until 2027 if no suitable offer is made this summer. However, with Osimhen keen on securing a permanent move and Al-Hilal’s financial strength, a resolution to his future seems imminent.
