The Gambian currency will be printed in Nigeria

The Central Bank of Nigeria will mint the Gambian Dalasi. Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the apex bank agreed to the proposal which was made by the Governor of the Central Bank of the Gambia, Mr. Buah Saidy during his visit with delegates from the Gambia.

Nigeria has a lot of capacity in currency printing and the cost is extremely competitive. The printing of currency by the  Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company Plc dates back to the 1960s, Emefiele stated.

According to the Daily Trust, the Gambian Central Bank Governor said his country is running very low on currency and wants to learn how to manage their currency need annually leveraging Nigeria’s wealth of knowledge and experience.

Mr. Buah Saidy said The Gambia placed a two years currency minting deal abroad but they are interested in placing a deal with Nigeria .
