Former Chelsea and Nigerian international Mikel Obi has responded sharply to Chelsea striker Nicholas Jackson, stating, “Keep scoring and I’ll shut up.”
This comment comes amid recent tensions between the two, likely intensifying the ongoing debate.
Obi made these remarks during his Monday podcast, *The Obi One*.
He said, “I really like the guy as a football player. There’s potential there. I haven’t said he’s a bad player; I’ve only pointed out that his finishing skills need improvement. He’s young, and I believe he could benefit from having a more experienced striker join the club to help him develop.
“To see my African brother succeed at Chelsea, a massive club that has had great strikers like Didier Drogba from Ivory Coast, would be wonderful. If he plays well, I’ll praise him. If there are areas where he needs to improve, I’ll mention them. If he scores consistently and tells me to be quiet, I’d accept that.”
Earlier, Mikel, 37, had critiqued Jackson’s goal-scoring abilities on beIN Sport during Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City last weekend, stating, “We created chances but didn’t take them. Jackson’s finishing is an example.”
In response, the Senegalese striker took to Instagram, writing, “Mikel Obi, shut your mouth, don’t talk sh*t, we are killing ourselves for Africa,” clearly expressing his dissatisfaction with the criticism.
