The Zimbabwean government has introduced a groundbreaking HIV prevention injection that lasts for two months.
The drug, Injectable cabotegravir (CAB_LA), now available for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), offers a cutting-edge approach to preventing HIV transmission among individuals at high risk.
This injection, administered every two months, is a practical and manageable alternative to the traditional daily PrEP pill regimen.
Dr. Misheck Ruwende, a prominent medical expert, commented:
“Zimbabwe saw its first recipient of the HIV prevention injection today. It’s a more convenient alternative to daily pills for PrEP, given just once every two months.”
