Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has broken his silence following the sacking of manager Erik ten Hag.
On Monday, October 28, United confirmed their decision to part ways with Ten Hag after a 2-1 defeat to West Ham left the club in 14th place, with only 11 points from their first nine Premier League games.
In a club statement, United said: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”
Assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has taken over as interim manager, with candidates like Julian Nagelsmann, Gareth Southgate, Thomas Frank, and Ruben Almiron being considered for the permanent role.
Fernandes, who has faced criticism for recent performances, acknowledged the team’s struggles and expressed gratitude for Ten Hag’s contributions.
He wrote on Instagram: “Thanks for everything, boss! I appreciate the trust and the moments we shared together. I wish you all the best.
“Even though the last period hasn’t been great for any of us, I hope the fans remember the positive things Erik has brought to our club.”
