Real Madrid have entered the race to sign Ademola Lookman, with the UEFA Champions League champions eyeing the Nigerian forward as a potential replacement for Vinicius Junior, reports *The PUNCH*.
Lookman has been in impressive form since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022 for €9.35 million plus bonuses, tallying 39 goals and 23 assists in 90 appearances. His performances have attracted interest from top European clubs, including Madrid.
The 27-year-old was close to a move to Paris Saint-Germain in August, with *Sports Zone* reporting that personal terms had been agreed. Last season, Lookman made 45 appearances, scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists. His highlight came in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, where he scored a hat-trick to secure Atalanta’s victory.
This season, Lookman shows no signs of slowing, with seven goals and five assists in 12 matches. Although Atalanta retained him during the summer, they may face increased pressure to sell as interest grows.
Madrid are preparing for Vinicius Junior’s potential departure, with Al-Hilal reportedly readying a record €300 million bid, which could surpass Neymar’s €222 million transfer from Barcelona to PSG in 2017. According to *Fichajes* via *El Futbolero*, Al-Hilal see Vinicius as a marquee signing and possible replacement for Neymar, who might exit at season’s end.
The Los Blancos are closely monitoring Lookman as a strong candidate to fill Vinicius’ role. “With uncertainty over Vinícius Jr.’s contract renewal, the Merengues have identified Ademola Lookman of Atalanta as a prime option to replace him,” the outlet reported.
“Lookman’s speed, dribbling skills, and versatility on both wings make him a strong fit for Real Madrid’s style under Carlo Ancelotti,” it added.
According to *Transfermarkt*, Lookman is valued at €60 million, a sum well within Madrid’s budget. Recently ranked 14th at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, Lookman is also a leading contender for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
