Nigerian footballer Raphael Onyedika celebrated a major career milestone on Sunday night, May 26, as he became a champion in Belgium for the first time. Club Brugge, his team, played to a scoreless draw against Cercle Brugge in a fiercely contested derby.
The draw secured Club Brugge the Championship Playoffs title with 50 points, narrowly edging out Union St. Gilloise, who finished with 49 points after defeating Genk 2-0.
Onyedika, a key player for Club Brugge, featured for the entire match. Throughout the season, the 23-year-old Super Eagles star demonstrated his prowess, scoring three goals in 30 league appearances.
This championship win adds to Onyedika’s impressive resume, as he previously clinched the Danish League title with FC Midtjylland, highlighting his consistent performance as a top-tier defensive midfielder.

Brugge have now qualified automatically for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League next season.
Onyedika is included in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Squirrels of Benin Republic.
