Google introduces AI co-scientists to assist research

by Admin

Google has introduced an Artificial Intelligence system designed to support scientists in forming research hypotheses and planning experiments, expanding its focus on AI-driven research tools.

In a blog post on Wednesday, the company revealed that the AI Co-Scientist system, built on its Gemini 2.0 model, enables researchers to define scientific goals using natural language. The system then generates testable hypotheses, summarises relevant literature, and suggests experimental approaches.

Describing it as a collaborative tool rather than a replacement for human expertise, Google emphasised that AI Co-Scientist is meant to assist researchers in refining their work rather than automating the scientific process.

This launch reflects the increasing role of AI in scientific research, with organisations exploring its potential to drive breakthroughs in medicine, climate science, and materials engineering. Google expects the AI Co-Scientist system to aid researchers in complex areas like disease modelling and molecular biology.
