UEFA fines Mbappe, Rudiger, and Ceballos for ‘inappropriate conduct’

by Admin

Kylian Mbappe was among three Real Madrid players fined by UEFA on Friday for “violating basic rules of decent conduct” following their Champions League last-16 second-leg win over Atletico Madrid.

The French forward received a €30,000 ($33,000) fine, while German defender Antonio Rudiger was fined €40,000 and Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos €20,000.

UEFA had opened an investigation into four players, including Brazilian star Vinicius Junior, but he was not sanctioned.

Both Mbappe and Rudiger were handed suspended one-match bans in European competitions. These suspensions won’t affect their upcoming Champions League quarter-final clash against Arsenal next Tuesday.

UEFA did not specify the players’ exact offences but cited Article 11 of its disciplinary code, which covers expectations of “decent conduct.”

The incident took place on March 12 after Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid on penalties at the Metropolitano Stadium, following a 2-2 draw on aggregate. Madrid players reportedly taunted and provoked Atletico fans while celebrating the dramatic win.
