Ademola Lookman may be on the verge of making a sensational return to the Premier League, with reports suggesting that Atalanta is preparing to sell the Nigeria international to Liverpool this summer.
Lookman played a key role in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League success and secured 14th place in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings, making him one of the club’s most prized assets. His impressive performances have attracted interest from several top clubs, with Liverpool now reportedly in the lead for his signature.
The 26-year-old winger is no stranger to English football, having previously played for Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City in the Premier League before revitalising his career in Serie A. His resurgence at Atalanta has certainly caught the attention of top clubs, and the club is said to be preparing for a lucrative transfer window.
According to Italian publication Il Giorno, Atalanta’s new Director of Global Development, John Murtough (formerly of Manchester United), has been assigned the task of maximising revenue from the sale of key players, including Lookman and Brazilian midfielder Ederson. While Manchester City and Manchester United are reportedly eyeing Ederson, Lookman is seen as an ideal attacking reinforcement for Liverpool, especially with uncertainty surrounding their forward line under the incoming new manager.
Atalanta has previously enjoyed profitable sales to English clubs, including Amad Diallo and Rasmus Højlund to Manchester United, Cristian Romero to Tottenham Hotspur, and Timothy Castagne and Caleb Okoli to Leicester City.
If the deal goes through, Lookman will join a select group of Nigerian players to have featured for Liverpool, including Victor Moses, and could add flair and goal-scoring threat to the squad at Anfield.
