Bilikesu Olagunju, a 42-year-old Nigerian care worker living on Congress Road in Abbey Wood, has pleaded guilty to charges of ill-treatment and willful neglect of a pensioner while serving in her role.
The abuse came to light after CCTV footage from the victim’s home captured Olagunju forcibly grabbing and dragging the elderly man.
She appeared at Woolwich Crown Court on Wednesday, May 7, for sentencing. However, the hearing was postponed after she arrived without legal representation.
Presiding Judge Charlotte Welsh urged Olagunju to seek legal counsel, stating: “You have no representation. It’s entirely your choice but I think it’s really important you get a solicitor – they’ll help you apply for legal aid and you won’t have to pay. I know you’re very worried and I don’t want to frighten you, but this is a very serious offence and you should have someone representing you.”
Olagunju has been released on bail and is scheduled to return for sentencing in June.
