Carlo Ancelotti has officially announced that he will take charge of the Brazil national team on May 26, following the conclusion of Real Madrid’s season.
Speaking on Tuesday, the veteran Italian coach reflected on his time with the Spanish club and shared high praise for his former player and rising managerial talent, Xabi Alonso.
“Xabi Alonso doesn’t need any advice from me—he’s a fantastic manager. He has everything it takes to become one of the best,” Ancelotti said.
Ancelotti, who returned to Real Madrid in 2021 for a second stint, confirmed his future plans while expressing heartfelt gratitude to the club and its fans.
“I’ll start coaching Brazil on May 26. Like everything in life, things eventually come to an end. I’ve really enjoyed my time here. I’ll be a Real Madrid fan for life. I never imagined I’d be here for six years—I’m grateful to the club for that,” he said.
At 65, Ancelotti will become the first foreign coach to lead Brazil’s men’s national team. He is set to manage their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, with his debut competitive match scheduled against Ecuador on June 6.
His appointment comes after Dorival Júnior’s departure in March, ending a 14-month tenure.
