Amusan set to compete at Rabat Diamond League

by Admin

World record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, will continue her 2025 outdoor season on Sunday as she competes in the fourth leg of the Wanda Diamond League in Rabat, Morocco. The 28-year-old has been officially listed among the event’s entries.

Amusan was initially set to compete at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, earlier this month, but missed the event after the Athletics Federation of Nigeria withdrew. She will now make her second Diamond League appearance of the year, having previously opened her season in Xiamen, China, on April 26, where she finished fourth in 12.74 seconds, behind Danielle Williams (Jamaica), Grace Stark (USA), and Marione Fourie (South Africa).

She was also absent from last week’s Atlanta City Games in Georgia, where she had been scheduled to compete. Amusan participated in the second Diamond League meet in Shanghai, China, on May 3, placing fourth again, behind Grace Stark, Danielle Williams, and Marione Fourie. She missed the third installment of the Diamond League in Doha, Qatar, on May 16, as the women’s 100m hurdles was not part of the disciplines on offer.

A strong performance this weekend in Rabat will put Amusan in good stead as she prepares for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, in September.

In addition to Amusan, the Rabat meet will feature top athletes like Dutch queen Femke Bol, who will aim to start her outdoor season with a win in the 400m hurdles, and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, who will compete in both the 200m and 100m. He will face tough competition from sprinters such as Erriyon Knighton (USA), Ferdinand Omanyala (Kenya), and South Africa’s Wayde van Niekerk (200m) and Akani Simbine (100m). However, current world and Olympic champion in the men’s 100m, Noah Lyles, will not be competing in Morocco.
