Former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has advised Victor Osimhen to consider a move to the Saudi Pro League, describing it as a financially smart step in his career.
Osimhen’s future remains uncertain after Napoli reportedly turned down a €75 million bid from Turkish champions Galatasaray. The Nigerian forward recently wrapped up a remarkable loan spell, scoring 37 goals in 41 games and playing a key role in the club’s domestic double.
Despite his outstanding form and Galatasaray’s interest in keeping him, Osimhen’s next destination remains undecided.
Speaking with Echo Room, Ighalo suggested that Osimhen should prioritise financial stability by making a short-term move to Saudi Arabia, and then return to Europe while still in his prime.
“My advice to Victor Osimhen is to go to Saudi Arabia for two years to make money. Then he can come back to Europe,” Ighalo said.
Drawing from personal experience, the former Manchester United striker recalled his own career path—moving to the Chinese Super League in his late twenties before making a surprise return to Europe with United at age 30.
“I went to China for three years, then returned to play for Manchester United. All odds were against me—I was 30 years old. Victor Osimhen is 26. In two years, he’ll be 28 and can still play in Europe for another five years if he wants.”
Ighalo’s comments highlight a growing trend of players heading to the Saudi League to benefit from its high-paying contracts, with some eventually returning to top-flight European football.
