Artist Thierry Mengoumou Ayia popularly known as Tenor, has been locked up at the New Bell prison in Douala.

The artist would be spending his first night in the detention facility today after he was arrested by security officers.

Recall that he was involved in a ghastly car accident on his way back from a show in Douala on Thursday, July 15, 2021. At around 4 am his car which was driving at full speed, after having made a glide, caught fire on the side of the economic capital (Douala) more precisely at the level of the Rond-point Feu Rouge Bessengue ”,

The time and day of his arrest remain unknown at the moment.

The motive behind the singer’s arrest and incarceration also remain unknown.

It, however, comes after he was discharged from hospital where he spent some nights after a ghastly accident.

The father of a young girl who lost her life in the said accident had promised “to deal with the artist.” He blamed Tenor for his daughter’s demise, and said Tenor must pay pay her bride price (Dowry).

It remains uncertain if any charges have been labeled against the singer.

The New Bell prison where he is set to spend his first night is among Cameroon’s most dreaded detention facilities, noted for torture, overcrowding and other deplorable conditions.
