Super Eagles Job: Anderson Confirms Discussions with NFF

by Admin

Experienced Swedish coach Janne Andersson has confirmed ongoing discussions with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regarding the vacant Super Eagles coaching position, though he emphasised that no agreement has been reached yet.

Andersson, 61, became available after stepping down as Sweden’s coach in November 2023 due to their failure to qualify for the 2024 European Championship.

Following Nigeria’s disappointing results in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin, former Super Eagles coach Finidi George resigned, leaving the team without a permanent coach.

In response, the NFF’s Executive Committee decided to seek a foreign Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the remaining 2026 World Cup qualifying matches.

Despite speculation linking Andersson to the Super Eagles role, the NFF has stated that no appointment has been made as of this week.

Regarding the situation, Andersson told Swedish newspaper Expressen: “It’s a significant footballing nation, and I can confirm that I have had discussions with the Nigeria Football Federation.

“I’m flattered to be considered for their national team coach position. The dialogue is ongoing, and I prefer not to say more at this time. Having been in the industry for so long, I know that situations can change, so we’ll see what the future holds.”
