Galatasaray were left in awe by Victor Osimhen’s bicycle kick goal during Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Antalyaspor, with the Turkish champions hailing the strike as “more than a photograph, a work of art” in a statement shared on their Instagram page on Sunday.
The Nigerian striker’s stunning goal, scored two minutes into stoppage time, sealed the win for the visitors in the Süper Lig Game week 9 match at Corendon Airlines Park, Antalya. This breathtaking effort is sure to remain etched in global football history.
It marked Osimhen’s third league goal of the season. He had opened his scoring account with a courageous finish in Galatasaray’s 3-3 draw against Kasimpasa before being sidelined by a hamstring injury for two matches.
The Napoli loanee’s contribution helped the two-time defending champions return to winning form, further sweetened by title rivals Besiktas dropping points. Following Galatasaray’s monumental win against Fenerbahce in the Intercontinental Derby two weeks earlier, pressure on manager Okan Buruk had eased. However, after consecutive setbacks, doubts were raised once again about his tactical approach.
Galatasaray had struggled without Osimhen, surrendering a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 against Riga in the Europa League but managed a 1-0 victory over Alanyaspor last Sunday, positioning them well ahead of the international break.
The former Lille striker joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in September for the rest of the season. While the Turkish club is keen to make the move permanent, interest from other clubs, notably Chelsea, could complicate their efforts.
