The eighth African Nations Championship (CHAN) will take place from February 1 to 28, 2025, across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, as confirmed by Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe on Monday.
CHAN, a biennial tournament exclusively for locally-based players, will be the first continental football competition hosted in East Africa. This event will precede the 2027 African Cup of Nations, which will also be hosted by the three countries.
Motsepe, who recently visited three Kenyan national stadiums set to host the matches (two of which are under renovation), praised the commitment of the host nations. He noted that the tournament will enhance football infrastructure, attract visitors, and boost tourism.
Qualifying matches for the 19-team tournament will begin on October 25 and conclude in December. Senegal, the winner of the last edition in 2023, defeated hosts Algeria 5-4 on penalties in the final. Since the tournament’s inception in 2009, Morocco and DR Congo have each won the CHAN title twice.
