Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has praised Morocco for its exceptional organisation of the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations.
Chelle highlighted that the North African country set a new standard in hosting the continent’s premier tournament, showcasing world-class infrastructure and seamless planning that positively represented Africa on the global stage.
He also stressed that Morocco’s impact extends beyond hosting, noting the country played a significant role in FIFA’s decision to increase Africa’s slots for the World Cup.
“Every African should thank Morocco, not just for the outstanding organisation of the AFCON or the stadiums that honoured us as Africans in front of other nations,” Chelle said, as reported by ESPN.
“More importantly, it was Morocco’s achievement that pushed FIFA to expand the number of African teams qualifying for the World Cup after they reached the semi-finals.”
Morocco made history at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals, a landmark achievement widely seen as a turning point for African football.
Chelle concluded that Morocco’s success and strategic investments have helped reshape global perceptions of African football and created greater opportunities for other African nations to compete at the highest level.
