Arsenal have reportedly finalised a deal to sign long-time target Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
The Spanish defensive midfielder has been on Arsenal’s radar for over a year, with negotiations essentially wrapped up since the winter transfer window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Zubimendi has now given a verbal agreement to join the North London club, with Arsenal prepared to activate his £51 million release clause.
The 26-year-old is set to become the first signing under new sporting director Andrea Berta, who arrived from Atlético Madrid in March after the dismissal of Edu and Jason Ayto’s brief interim role.
Widely regarded as one of Europe’s top midfielders, Zubimendi played a key role in Spain’s victorious Euro 2024 campaign.
