Osimhen on the verge of winning Turkish league title with Galatasaray

by Admin

Victor Osimhen is closing in on his first Turkish Super Lig title with defending champions Galatasaray, following a 2-0 away win over Trabzonspor at Papara Park on Saturday. The victory leaves the club just one point away from securing the 2024/2025 league crown.

The Super Eagles forward played the full 90 minutes for the red and yellow but did not add to his goal or assist tally in the tightly contested match. Despite not scoring, the former Lille striker is on course to claim just the second league title of his career, having previously won the Serie A with Napoli in the 2022/2023 season.

After a goalless first half, Abdulkerim Bardakci opened the scoring in the 66th minute with a powerful header from a corner. Substitute Alvaro Morata, who entered the match in the 77th minute, sealed the win with a goal in the 84th minute after a clever assist from Yunus Akgun.

The result extends Galatasaray’s unbeaten run to five games and keeps them at the top of the standings with 86 points, eight clear of closest rivals Fenerbahce.

Galatasaray will be crowned champions if they secure at least a draw at home to Kayserispor on matchday 34, regardless of Fenerbahce’s result.

Before that, Osimhen will look to help his team lift the Turkish Cup on Wednesday in another showdown against Trabzonspor. A win in the final would give the Nigerian striker a chance to complete a domestic double during his loan spell with the Istanbul giants.
