Chelsea Set to Depart Stamford Bridge

by Admin

Chelsea are reportedly in discussions about a potential move from Stamford Bridge to a new stadium at Earl’s Court. According to The Guardian, the club has been in talks with Transport for London (TfL), a key partner in managing the Earl’s Court site, about the possibility of relocating. However, the upcoming presentation by the Earl’s Court Development Committee (ECDC) for a mixed-use development does not include plans for a football stadium.

Chelsea has called Stamford Bridge home for over a century, but with a capacity of just over 40,000, it ranks ninth in the Premier League, falling behind other top teams. Efforts to expand the current site have not been successful.

Jason Gannon, Chelsea’s CEO, who previously managed SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles before joining the club in 2023, has had productive discussions with TfL and Delancey about the potential move. The site at Earl’s Court is reportedly valued at up to £500 million.

Any relocation would require an agreement with Chelsea Pitch Owners, who hold the freehold on Stamford Bridge, and would need to consider the preferences of the club’s supporters.

Internal conflicts between co-owners Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly could further complicate the negotiations and planning for the proposed move.
