The Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in the Wenchi West District of the Mid-West Ghana Conference, located in the Bono Region, honoured 20 young girls over the weekend for preserving their virginity. The girls, aged 13 to 16, were celebrated during a special Thanksgiving service, where they received undisclosed financial support.
According to GhanaWeb, the event, organised by the Young Adventist Women Ministries, aimed to promote moral integrity grounded in Christian and cultural values.
Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, emphasized the initiative’s focus on fostering the holistic development of young women. “God created you uniquely beautiful, and you must not allow anyone to lure you into breaking your virginity until marriage,” she urged, encouraging the girls to be cautious about their friendships in 2025.
Highlighting traditional values, Mrs. Poku stated, “The ancient Bragoro or Dipo rite played a vital role in preserving girls’ virginity and preventing teenage pregnancies, which are detrimental to the growth and development of young women.”
Associate Pastor Andrews Dua Bour Kyereh commended the honorees for their discipline and commitment to purity. He urged them to prioritise education and faith, inspiring other young girls in the church and community to follow their example.
Pastor Kyereh also called on parents to actively guide their children toward virtuous living, emphasising the importance of instilling strong moral values.
Additionally, Mrs. Poku encouraged the girls to build self-confidence and make wise decisions, stressing the need to maintain their purity and choose their friends carefully in the year ahead.
