Israel carries out airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon

by Admin

The Israeli military said on Friday that it carried out a series of strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, including weapons depots and a training facility.

In a statement, the military said several weapons storage sites and what it described as “terrorist infrastructure” used by Hezbollah to plan attacks against Israel were hit.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported multiple Israeli airstrikes on mountainous areas in the Nabatiyeh and Jezzine districts in southern Lebanon, as well as the Hermel district in the east.

The strikes come despite a ceasefire reached in November 2024 that was intended to end more than a year of fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group. Since the ceasefire, Israel has continued to conduct strikes in Lebanon and has kept troops in five locations it considers strategically important.

According to an AFP tally based on Lebanese health ministry data, more than 340 people have been killed by Israeli fire in Lebanon since the truce. Friday’s strikes followed similar attacks a day earlier near the Syrian border and in southern Lebanon that reportedly killed three people. Israel’s military said on Thursday it had killed a member of Iran’s elite Quds Force in a strike in Lebanon.

On Friday, the military said it targeted several Hezbollah military structures and warned it would act against any threat to Israel.

Under pressure from the United States and amid concerns over further escalation, Lebanon has pledged to disarm Hezbollah, beginning in the south near the Israeli border. The Lebanese army plans to complete disarmament south of the Litani River by the end of the year.

Israel has questioned the Lebanese military’s ability to enforce the process and accused Hezbollah of rearming, while the group has rejected calls to give up its weapons.
