Jamaica’s head coach Steve McClaren has resigned after the national team failed to secure automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
The Reggae Boyz needed a win over Curacao in Kingston on Tuesday, but a tense 0–0 draw ended their hopes and sent Curacao through instead.
Speaking after the match, McClaren said he had given everything since taking charge last July but admitted the team fell short of its goals. He called leading Jamaica a great honour but noted that responsibility ultimately lies with the manager when results don’t meet expectations.
After assessing the situation, McClaren said stepping down was the best decision for the team’s future.
His exit comes at a key moment for Jamaica, who must now appoint a new coach ahead of next year’s Inter-Confederation play-offs featuring Iraq, DR Congo, New Caledonia, Bolivia and Suriname.
