Jose Mourinho is set for a sensational return to Benfica, 25 years after his first spell at the club.

According to Sky Sports, the 62-year-old has agreed to a two-year deal to take charge of the Portuguese giants. Mourinho, dismissed by Fenerbahce last month after their Champions League exit, arrived in Lisbon on Wednesday night from Barcelona, greeted by fans who placed a Benfica scarf around his neck.

When asked about the move, the Portuguese coach admitted the offer was irresistible:
“When I was faced with the possibility of coaching Benfica, I didn’t think twice. I’m interested, I’d like it,” Mourinho said.

Mourinho’s first stint at Benfica came in 2000, though it lasted just 10 games before his resignation amid boardroom changes. He went on to build a glittering career with Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Roma.

Benfica recently parted ways with Bruno Lage after a shock Champions League defeat to Qarabag and are keen to have Mourinho in the dugout before their weekend clash with Vila das Aves. His return also sets up a blockbuster Champions League meeting later this month against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
