UCL: Simeone says sorry for his reaction to fan abuse after Liverpool loss

by Admin

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has apologised for his behaviour towards Liverpool fans after a dramatic Champions League clash at Anfield.

Virgil van Dijk’s stoppage-time header sealed a 3-2 victory for the hosts, sparking heated exchanges between Simeone and sections of the home crowd. The Argentine was visibly agitated, confronted supporters, and had to be restrained before being sent off.

In his post-match remarks, Simeone admitted regret, saying managers “do not have the right to react” and acknowledged his response was “not good.” However, he criticised the insults he claimed to have endured throughout the match, urging greater accountability from fans and clubs.

The fiery encounter saw Liverpool strike early through Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah, before Marcos Llorente’s brace brought Atletico level. Van Dijk’s 92nd-minute winner ultimately settled the contest.
