The Libyan Football Federation announced on Tuesday via Facebook that AFCON-winning coach Aliou Cissé has been appointed as the new head coach of the national team.
Cissé, renowned as one of Africa’s top coaches and the mastermind behind Senegal’s 2022 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, will lead Libya until 2027, according to the federation.
“We welcome the best coach in Africa,” the statement read, without disclosing details about his contract or salary.
He takes over from Nasser Al-Hadhiri, who was appointed in September 2024. The federation confirmed that Cissé, 48, will be officially introduced to the media on March 13 in Tripoli before beginning his tenure.
Libya failed to qualify for the upcoming AFCON in Morocco next winter. However, they currently hold second place in their World Cup qualifying group and are set to face Angola later this month.
