Trent Alexander-Arnold’s stunning strike highlighted Liverpool’s dominant 4-0 victory over Accrington Stanley, securing their place in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday. Chelsea also cruised through, thrashing Morecambe 5-0.
Brentford, however, suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat to bottom-placed Championship side Plymouth, courtesy of Morgan Whittaker’s late winner.
At Anfield, Liverpool, with eight changes under Arne Slot, faced little resistance despite Accrington’s efforts. Alexander-Arnold, captaining in Virgil van Dijk’s absence, redeemed himself with a brilliant long-range goal after Diogo Jota’s opener. Jayden Danns and Federico Chiesa added two more, with Chiesa marking his first goal for the club.
Meanwhile, Joao Felix shone for Chelsea, scoring twice alongside Tosin Adarabioyo, while Christopher Nkunku redeemed an early penalty miss with his 13th goal this season.
In other matches, high-flying Nottingham Forest beat Luton 2-0, Brighton routed Norwich 4-0, Bournemouth crushed West Brom 5-1, and Leicester overpowered QPR 6-2.
Elsewhere, Wolves edged Bristol City 2-1, while Birmingham, backed by NFL legend Tom Brady, defeated Lincoln 2-1 to advance.
Later, Manchester City will face Salford City, owned by ex-Manchester United stars including David Beckham and Ryan Giggs.
