Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman is reportedly dealing with a calf injury that could keep him out of action for several weeks, just as transfer speculation linking him to Inter Milan intensifies.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nigerian international began experiencing discomfort in his calf following Wednesday’s training session. The pain reportedly worsened during ball work, raising concerns about the extent of the issue.
SOSFanta reports that Lookman is now scheduled for further tests to determine the severity of the injury. While initial assessments suggest the issue may not be serious, he is currently out of full training with Atalanta.
The timing of the injury complicates matters, as Inter Milan have reportedly submitted an opening bid of €40 million for Lookman. However, Atalanta are holding firm on their €50 million valuation—and, for domestic transfers, have even set the price at €60 million.
According to Calciomercato, Inter are exploring a player-plus-cash deal to close the gap, with midfielder Kristjan Asllani potentially included to sweeten the offer. Inter are said to have already agreed personal terms with Lookman, who is keen to make the move to San Siro.
Renowned journalist Gianluca Di Marzio previously reported that Inter are “serious” about securing the 27-year-old forward and already have “an agreement with the player” as they intensify their pursuit.
Lookman enjoyed a stellar 2023/24 season, scoring 17 goals and playing a pivotal role in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League triumph—capped off by a stunning hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen. He has since followed that up with 20 goals in the 2024/25 campaign, attracting interest from several top clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Arsenal.
Despite the external interest, Lookman is believed to prefer a move to Inter, and has already given the green light. Newly appointed Inter manager Christian Chivu reportedly sees him as a central figure in his revamped attack.
The Super Eagles star remains under contract with Atalanta until 2027, but talks between the two clubs are ongoing. Inter are hopeful that a previous verbal agreement allowing Lookman to leave this summer will be honoured by the Bergamo-based club.
However, with the injury now in play, both clubs are expected to closely monitor the winger’s recovery before proceeding further with negotiations.
