Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama will not be attending the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump. This marks the second time in two weeks that she is opting out of a gathering of former U.S. leaders and their spouses. However, former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton will be present.
Laura Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will join their husbands for the January 20th swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol, according to representatives.
“Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration,” a statement from the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama confirmed.
No reason has been provided for Michelle Obama’s absence from Trump’s inauguration.
She also missed former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral in Washington last week, where former Presidents Trump, Obama, Bush, and Clinton, along with their spouses, were in attendance — except for her.
