Mohbad: Court Orders Substituted Service for Naira Marley and Sam Larry; Reinstates Late Singer’s Wife as Witness.

A Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has ordered substituted service for key witnesses in the ongoing investigation into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad.

According to Punch, the witnesses include Azeez Fashola (Naira Marley), Samson Eletu (Sam Larry), Mohbad’s sister-in-law Karimot Ogunbayo, Boluwatife Adeyemo (Darosha), Mohbad’s lawyer Oluwasanmi Falade, nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and driver Fidelis Esanbor.

Magistrate T. A. Sotobi approved the application by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, to serve witness summons through a national newspaper and social media. This decision was made on August 16, 2024.

The Aloba family’s legal team, led by Wahab Shittu SAN and including Emmanuel Oroko Esq., Monisola Odumosu, Emmanuel Sadoh, Dr. A.R. Ahmed, Oluyemi Osalusi Esq., Wole Ariyibi, and Sadiq Kamo, argued for the order to issue witness summons to individuals with knowledge of the circumstances leading to Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023. The team also requested that the summons be served via published notices in reputable national newspapers.

Efforts to serve these witnesses through the court have been unsuccessful so far.

Additionally, the court has granted the application to recall Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, and the IPO in charge of the case, ASP Muhammad Yusuf. Lawyer Akinpelu Ogunbona, representing Ibrahim Owodunni (Primeboy), argued that Wunmi and the police need to clarify new issues related to the singer’s death.

The court has adjourned to ensure compliance with the orders and for the witnesses to be presented on the next adjourned date. Mohbad passed away under controversial circumstances at age 27 on September 12, 2023.
